As discussed elsewhere on this blog, the Renters’ Rights Bill will introduce major changes for private landlords and letting agents — representing the most significant shift in housing legislation in over 30 years.
The Bill gives increased powers to local authorities to:
- Bring prosecutions
- Serve civil penalty notices (with higher fines)
- Apply for Rent Repayment Orders where rent is paid via benefits
Although the Bill is not as hostile to landlords as some suggest, it’s essential that you understand the new rules to avoid penalties and protect your rights.
